10 New Zealand Events Happening In August 2018

The first thing you’ll want to concentrate on when planning on attending a New Zealand event is transportation. You would be well served by booking bus hire in New Zealand to get around safely and efficiently. With that out of the way, it’s time to take a look at some of the New Zealand events scheduled for August of 2018.

What To Think About Next

After figuring out your transportation method, a couple of other decisions must be made. What type of event are you interested in attending? The following are some of the available events for 2018:

  • Workshops, conferences, and classes
  • Sports and outdoors
  • Festivities and lifestyle
  • Exhibitions
  • Concerts and gigs

You will need to think about exactly where you want to attend the event(s). Some key places of interest are as follows:

There are also 2018 events taking place in all North and South Island places. To give you a better idea of what’s happening in New Zealand, we will describe a few of the events.

Concerts and Gigs

Concerts and gigs can be broken down into categories as well. This is extensive, so take a breath. The categories are as follows: world, variety concerts, rock, reggae/roots/dub, R&B/soul, quiz/karaoke, pop, music festivals, metal, Latin/salsa, jazz/blues/swing, hip-hop/rap, folk, country, and alternative/indie. Many of these events are hosted at bars, restaurants, stadiums, etc.

In no particular order, let’s look at a couple of favorites:

Devilskin NZ Tour 2018 – held on Friday, August 31, the tour is proudly presented by The Rock. Devilskin are looking forward to emerging from Roundhead Recording Studio, amped and energized. They promise to deliver a blistering new collection of songs. Be sure to get your tickets early.

Katchafire – there are numerous dates for this groups gigs following the release of Legacy, their fifth studio album. Some of the appearances are as follows: Friday, August 24 at Whanganui Manawatu’s Frank Bar and Eatery; Friday, August 10 in Hamilton, Waikato at The Factory; Saturday, August 25, at New Plymouth, Taranaki’s The Mayfair; and Friday, August 31 at San Fran in Wellington.

Festivals and Lifestyle

There are multiple categories under this heading including the following: singles/socials/balls; markets and fairs; lifestyle shows/expose; games/hobbies; food/wine/gourmet; festivals; family entertainment; kids/holidays; charity/fundraisers; associations/alumni/clubs; and field days/A&P shows.

In no particular order, here are some of the top billed events:

The 2018 Chocolate Factory Tours – chocolate is a favorite of many. On Saturday, July 14, from just before noon until just before midnight, Te Aro, Wellington hosted this event at the Wellington Chocolate Factory in Eva Street. But don’t worry if you missed it because additional dates are as follows: (All Saturdays) August 4; August 11; August 18; and August 25. The tour introduces visitors to the world of chocolate making and showing them the full, bean-to-bar, beginning to end chocolate making process.

NZIFF (New Zealand’s International Film Festival) – already having begun in July, this festival runs through Sunday, August 12. It is a celebration of New Zealand’s finest screens and films. It is the highlight of cultural events and can be found around the country, in more than a dozen cities and towns.

Exhibitions

The categories under this heading are as follows: social/political history; sculpture; photography; Pacific cultures; natural history; museums; fine art; craft/object art; and contemporary. You have but to pick which suits your fancy in order to research an exhibition.

Worldwide Botanical Art Exhibition – from Wednesday, August 1 through the 9t, at Wellington’s Botanic Gardens, the Treehouse Visitor Center will display contemporary botanical artists’ 40 plus works. Unique indigenous flora will be showcased from over 25 countries. The organization of this exhibition comes courtesy of the Botanical Art Society Of New Zealand and the Friends of Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Mirror Magic – until Sunday, August 5, in Lake Taupo at the Taupo Museum, visitors can prepare to be dazzled by this exhibition. It takes the viewer to the upside down, back to front, crazy world of the looking glass with light and reflections. Visitors from all walks of life will be inspired by artists and magicians as they create astounding illusions.

Sports and Outdoors

With categories too numerous to mention, nearly every sport or outdoor activity imaginable is represented in this category. Some of the top events will include the following:

Game of Three Halves – on Friday, August 10, at Christchurch’s AMI Stadium, the All-Black’s rugby team will be coming to town. They will play against Otago and Canterbury in preparation for the Investec Rugby Championship. After the final whistle blows, photos and autographs with fans (and all three teams) will be the highlight of the after-game festivities.

Wellington Ice Rink – at Wellington’s Odlin’s Plaza, until Sunday, August 5, winter fun can be had on select days with something for everyone. Wash away the midwinter blues with this ice-skating extravaganza in Wellington’s vibrant waterfront precinct. The ice rink is fully covered, so it can be enjoyed in any weather with stunning views of the bay.

Workshops, Conferences, and Classes

Networking Drinks – CEOs, entrepreneurs, and business owners will enjoy this event being held at Parnell, Auckland’s The Common – Entrepreneurs Playground Thursday, August 16. Snacks, drinks, and networking will be abundant; and you never know who you might meet. Entertainment, antipasto platters, wine, cider, beer, and soft drinks will be provided. Attendees just need to bring the laughter, sharing, and brains.

Home Composting for Beginners – On Saturday, August 18, at the Environmental Center Hawke’s Bay (Gisborne), composters will be given the opportunity to learn more about changing garbage into rich, beautiful, soil enhancing compost. This is good news for your very deserving garden. Why buy compost when you can save lots of money doing it yourself?

The North and South Island events consist of workshops and conferences; sports and outdoors activities; performing arts events; festivals; exhibits; and concerts. Don’t forget to call ahead and set up accommodations so that you can fully enjoy the events without worrying about where you’re going to stay.
