Manifesto
The Auckland Art Gallery brings together the work of filmmaker and German artist Julian Rosefeldt, with an indulging 13-screen film installation ‘Manifesto’. The screening pays tribute to the moving custom and fictional beauty of artist manifestos, therefore signifying the role of artist in today’s society. ‘Manifesto’ draws on the writings of Dogma 95, Situationists, Suprematists, Fluxus artists, Dadaists and Futurists, along with musings of individual filmmakers, dancers, architects and artists. Julian’s work reveals both the political significance and performative component of the declarations, with a vision to change the world through art as well as the voice of a generation.
NZ Tattoo And Art Extravaganza
The NZ Tattoo and Art Extravaganza is returning for another season at the ASB Arena on the 14th and 15th of April. It is going to be more electrifying with boundless entertainment, numerous stages and more artists. Some of the biggest names will be joining the event this year, including Kamil, AD Poncho, Matt Jordan, Tofi, Randy Engelhard and many more wonderful artists. The year will also host the first Wearable Arts show with performances from top dancers and choreographers.
Luke Willis Thompson
The first ever large-scale solo exhibition will be hosted in the Adam Art Gallery in Wellington, by the famous London artist Luke Willis Thompson, as a contribution to the 2018 visual arts programme. Luke describes his work as an effort to find political silence form, by staging 3 silent documentaries in total darkness over 3 levels of the gallery. He has a knack of documenting human subjects through which instances of racial injustice and historical violence can be traced. His works have been included in exhibitions in UK, Germany, USA, Brazil and Canada.
Carl Cox Pure Auckland 2018
