From secret “non-festivals” to three-day beach camping festivals, throughout the year, numerous opportunities for amazing music festivals, epic scenery, and partying galore exist in New Zealand. So, here are some music festivals taking place in Auckland this year:
St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival
Though this festival already took place for 2019 (on January 29), it will be back again next January. So, mark your calendars and get your travel arrangements all set up, because this is one of Auckland’s major festivals and should not be missed.
At Auckland CVD, the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival kicked off in January 2019 as usual. Of all the New Zealand music festivals, this is an absolute favorite. (So popular is this music festival that another one takes place in Australia, as well.) This year’s Auckland festivities started with a bang.
This year’s celebration and all others are all about leading, revered and new seminal music. The developers of this festival have a keen interest in bringing to the public what is fresh and new in a unique setting. Their efforts are well appreciated by music lovers of all genres. Experience a music festival like no other with eclectic live music, reasonably sized crowds, and participation from both locals and internationals.
Highlife NYE Experience
Once again, this New Year’s Eve extravaganza has already taken place for 2019, but as was mentioned in the previous festival description, it’s not too late to mark your calendars for next New Year’s Eve and make your plans. Obviously, the event begins on the evening of December 31 this year for the next New Year’s Eve celebration. Here’s a little bit about the Highlife New Year’s Eve Experience.
Auckland, New Zealand is the place to be on New Year’s Eve for Northcote Point views, DJs, fireworks, premium beverages, gourmet food, performers, dancers, live acts, and more. The Highlife team presents this incredible wharf venue on the harbor and frequently teams up with Auckland’s leading stars in hospitality. Never before have you experienced a New Year’s extravaganza like this one. The eclectic atmosphere offers a sophisticated party environment, tons of good people, and a smorgasbord of music.
The 2018-19 celebration included names like Kareem Brown on sax, Tyler Christie, Scotty Mays, Rob Warner, Douglas Swift, Jordan Lee, DJ Lucas, Karn Hall, DJ Reminise, and Grant Marshall. VIP tickets are available which include lots of extras. Summer cocktail attire is the dress code at this delicious offering of numerous delicacies.
Splore
You just missed 2019’s Splore Festival. But, plan on the last week in February for 2020. This year’s festivities took place between February 21 and 24th, approximately one hour from Auckland, at Tapapakanga Regional Park.
This three-day event is a New Zealand local favorite, partially because of its marginally low-key atmosphere. On the Tapapakanga Regional Park shores, international and local artists line up for the enjoyment and entertainment of music loving festivalgoers.
Northern Bass
For the last several days in December, the Northern Bass celebration takes place approximately one hour from Auckland, in Mangwhai. The theme for the celebration is “All Things Base”. We’re talking boom bap, hip-hop, grime, drum n bass, etc. On location is a beach volleyball court and sandy beach lagoon.
Instagram and Facebook will list who’s playing and when as soon as it is decided upon. Closer to the event, a festival timetable will be released.
Elvis in the Gardens – Annual Concert
On Sunday, March 3, from 10 AM to 6:30 PM, the Auckland Botanic Gardens might lead you to believe that Elvis is alive and well! Admission is free and all ages welcome at this year’s 10th anniversary of Elvis in the Gardens. Some 15,000 people are expected at this 1-day concert, which is the single largest all-day Elvis tribute in the world. Of course, Elvis is not the only one performing and there promises to be an all-inclusive collection of various bands and performers. Children can enjoy professional face painting, bouncy castles, and more while mom and dad kickback and let their hair down.
If you miss this year’s event, don’t get All Shook up… There’s always next year!

Held at The Civic, Wintergarden, at 10 PM on March 8 (Friday) and 10 PM March 9, this 18-years of age and over celebration offers a little taste of the underground world with all sorts of surprises in store. For two evenings, groundbreaking acts from around the globe gather at this 1920s dance hall that is reputed to be one of the most interesting spots in Auckland.
A lot of thought has gone into this year’s lineup, and the evening is designed so that each act flows seamlessly into the next. If you’re looking for a good time and fantastic music, this is the place to be.
Some of the names included in this year’s lineup are Perel, Palms Trax, Optimo, Job Jobse, Danny Krivit, and more.
